The Wildlife Institute of India in Dehradun will conduct a nationwide exercise to estimate populations of India’s four bear species. The initiative will focus primarily on human-sloth bear conflict in protected areas, while proposals for the three other species will be forwarded. Officials say final population figures will become clear only after five years of the survey.
