A nearly 350-year-old African baobab at SAV Higher Secondary School in Thoothukudi split after heavy rains and thunderstorms, alarming alumni and locals. Former student Dr. S Sivasailam urged district authorities to dispatch experts to assess and conserve the historic tree. Environmentalists also called for arborist-supported measures, cabling, pruning and restorative treatment to salvage remaining sections.
